Onboarding – leadership and engagement. What is the most important criterion that gives a leader and manager the assurance that they have hired the right person for the right position? This was the question I posed in my last survey – today, I want to share its results with you. I am glad that the survey was really successful – nearly 100 people participated, for which I am very grateful.

ToggleThe Importance of Onboarding
The overwhelming majority of you – 74% of respondents stated that onboarding is the period when an employee’s attitude and engagement are most important – results will come in time. 19% of respondents pointed to the team atmosphere, and only for 6% are the results most important at this time.
Evolution of the Recruitment Approach
What does this mean in reality? Over the years of working as a manager and leader, I have hired several hundred people. I used to consider results as the most important criterion for the success of the recruitment process – they were the most important. Soon, I understood that if I want to build an effective and stable team, the onboarding period should be treated as an investment in acquiring the necessary knowledge by the employee, learning about the realities of the company and its employees. I also realized that only such work and the investment of our own resources, those of other team members, and the HR department can bring me the expected result – good preparation of the employee for independent work in accordance with expectations.
The Key to Success: Mutual Engagement
Onboarding – leadership and engagement. Only then, as the team leader, after the well-done work by myself, I have the right to expect good results from the new employee. The onboarding process requires the right attitude and approach from both sides – full engagement, flexibility, and willingness to learn quickly on the part of the employee, but also intensive work, patience, and understanding for mistakes on the part of the supervisor. Only such a mix of attitudes – from the new employee and his supervisor, can guarantee the smooth introduction of the employee to his duties, achieving synergy in the team, but also a quick return on the costs incurred by the company. Lack of proper engagement from either side means a higher risk of failure of the entire process. I will gladly help you. What do you think, how important is the right attitude and engagement of his leader in the employee’s onboarding process?
