ToggleMy First Encounter with Ikigai
About 2 or 3 years ago, I came across the book Ikigai for the first time. It was a simple message. I went through it in 2 hours. It’s very short when listening. And I moved on with life. I implemented a few of the tips. Some of them gave me more ease or enriched my life in other ways. In 2021, I returned to it and listened several times, which coincided with a new perspective on becoming a father. Changes that were to come.
From Immortality to Creativity – Evolution of My Goals
Years ago (in high school), my ultimate goal was immortality. Through creativity. Exegi monumentum aere perennius (I have built a monument more lasting than bronze) I can recite from memory, it is so deeply rooted in me from that period. Initially, it was a way to find myself, to better understand what I have in mind. And at the same time, a way for unrestrained expression. Over time, it turned into a hobby, and then everyday life and development in other areas overshadowed this part with forgetfulness. Over time, I discovered that it was still creating, but the expression was expressed in a different way.
Pillars of Ikigai – The Foundation of Philosophy
Let’s return to the main thought… What makes up Ikigai in the mentioned philosophy. There are 4 areas that can be turned into questions. At the same time, each builds upon the next, creating connections between them.
- What do you love to do? Here lie your passion and life mission.
- What are you good at? This area combines passion and profession.
- What does the world need? This area combines mission with vocation.
- What can others pay you for? This area combines mission with vocation.
Of course, these are very lofty slogans, because one might say that not everyone can do what they like, there is a need to come down to earth. Sure, one can think that way, but it is, of course, a choice. Like everything in life. As one of my mentors says: If you want, you can have anything in life, but you can’t have everything We ourselves have a choice, whether we take responsibility for what we have and what we want to have, who we want to become, what we want to experience? As they say, all the answers are already in you. If you can’t find them, I invite you to a webinar with my colleague Paweł “Viking,” who will show you how to talk to your subconscious.
What Do You Like Doing in Life?
Ikigai – finding your life’s purpose. To end, a quote from one of the unusual philosophers of the 21st century. Laska from “Chłopaki nie Płaczą” (Boys Don’t Cry): Just answer one damn, but damn important question. What do I like doing in life? And then start doing it. Do you already know the answer to this question?
